Lois Cafe
Although trendy fusion cuisine is on its way out in the rest of Asia, in Japan it' just
getting started. This new modern cafEin the heart of Ginza is just one of a number of
fashionable Asian fusion restaurants to open up over the past year. Lois CafEoffers a
unique mix of traditional Eastern dishes with a Western twist. Try their masala curry
(JY1000) or their "Miss Saigon," a salad with cappellini and seasonal vegetables
(JY1100). Or you can just stop in and have tea or their famous Saigon coffee (JY450) and
sesame chiffon cake (JY650). The dinner menu offers 16 additional dishes. Ginza Five Bldg. B1F, 5-1 Ginza (03-3569-8905), open
11am-10pm every day. Nearest stn: Ginza stn, exit C1.
D.D. Zeque Diner
Walk down the stairs through a glowing tunnel that leads you to a softly lit bridge, after
which cream-colored chairs beckon you to sit and relax; they are the sign that you are now
inside of D.D.Zeque Dinner. Serving up French cuisine with an Asian twist, Head Chef and
owner Hideo Suzuki claims, "We make everything look French but there's always a hint
of betrayal." The avocado cake (JY600) is a yummy example of Chef Suzuki's culinary
deceptions: This mousse-like dish looks like a dessert, but is, in fact, a spicy appetizer
with lots of chili and spices. It goes well with any wine. Although the spacious dining
area seats 88, reservations are recommended. Roppongi Ropponika Bldg B1, 9-6-24 Akasaka (03-3470-0320),
open 6-10:30pm, closed Sunday and Holidays. Nearest stn: Chiyoda stn or Nogizaka stn. Take
a three min walk along Gaien Nishi Dori, and it's near the old Defense Department
building.
