This shelf houses my CDs and books. It was already living in the apartment when I moved
in, so all I had to do was retouch it. Next I need a sofa; suppose I' have to go out and
buy that!

Apparently this is a fumizukue - a nice, old, dark wood Japanese antique desk. I
got it at Togo Kaikan, the antique market at the shrine in Harajuku. I've had it for ages
but I think it cost about JY10,000. My next furniture need is a great big comfortable bed
- but I'll have to extend my apartment first to accommodate it!

This is my office chair. From here I can command the universe - on a good day, that is. I
paid too much for it at Office Depot. What's next? An ottoman for my empire.

There's no place like home. Whether it be that minuscule manshon, aged apaato
or elegant expat exile, nothing lively-ups a place like a little interior deco. This week
our roving reporter gets his foot in the door to speak to some home boys and girls. He put
the following cards on the table: What is this piece of furniture, where did it come from,
and what piece do you need next? The answers - sofa so good.

SEEKING EMPLOYMENT
I bought this table in Bali for JY2000 because I liked the shape and design. I'm going to
buy it some cushions that match it so it doesn't get lonely.

This is a stool, my uncle's stool, about 50 years old and handmade. I think my uncle's
friend was a master carpenter so we probably got it for free but I'm not sure. What will I
get next? Another stool!
