I drink two or three cups a day. It gets rid of the stress and keeps me awake. No way I could live without it..

Tokyo is a coffee-drinking town. Few people, it seems, can start their day without a steaming cuppa joe. We tracked down a few of these bean fiends and asked how many cups does it take, what kind of jump start does it give you, and would a day without coffee just be the same old grind?
NAOKO WATANABE/
JEWELRY DESIGNER
I always start my day with coffee and have three or four cups a day. Coffee perks me up and relaxes me, makes my cigarettes taste better and allows me to have a break at work. Living without coffee? Impossible!
SUE SHARROCK/EDITOR
The amount of coffee I have every day depends on whether I' run out of teabags. Coffee makes my toes curl—no doubt I could live without it.

TOMOKO MATSUDA/
SHOP WORKER
Every day I have about four/five cups. I love the smell, I get a break from work and it relaxes me. I couldn't live without it.
DAN SUZUKI/HAIR STYLIST
Three cups a day usually. What it does for me? Keeps me regular... I could live without it but my life would be a little less happy.
