TOKYO TALK

MARCO MORAN / TEACHER
I hate the rain because it messes up my suits. When it pours I hang out in a cafEuntil it stops. I don' sing in the rain, but I do take umbrellas and bicycles… and other people's girls.
MARK & JUNKO / DJ & ZAZOU OWNER
Mark: I don't enjoy tsuyu 'coz it reminds me of England too much. When it rains I just sleep and drink and I never sing. It's fine to take umbrellas as revenge - mine's always stolen. Junko: I don't like the rain because it's depressing, and my bar doesn't get busy. When it rains I work and worry. I never take umbrellas, as there are too many forgotten ones at the bar.

EMIKO ICHINOSE / NOT SPECIFIED
I'm trying to get to like rainy season 'coz it happens whether we like it or not. I read books and cook vegetables when it's pouring - remember, if there was no rain there'd be no beautiful vegetables. I don't sing, but if I did I'd choose "Somewhere Over the Rainbow." Stealing isn't good. I wouldn't take a fancy umbrella, but the plastic JY500 ones are OK - they're like cheap lighters, everyone "borrows" them.

It's raining, it's pouring and some of you are snoring. What do you do during rainy season? With tsuyu upon us and the heavens about to open, we wanted to know if you celebrate by singing in the rain or if you cower indoors. And knowing you're an ethical bunch, we asked the eternal question: Is it OK to steal umbrellas?

HAROLD SMITH / INTERNET CONSULTANT
I don't mind rainy season because I know it's the last month before the dreadful summer when I'm smashed up against hundreds of sweaty salarymen on the Chuo line. When it does rain I hide in a cafE I can't stand singing in the rain, especially if its enka (Japanese folk music). I don't think its right to steal umbrellas, but there's nothing wrong with an upgrade!

WANNA SUTLEK / NOT SPECIFIED
I don't like tsuyu because you get too wet and sticky. I try to get out of the rain and run to the nearest coffee shop. I don't sing in the rain, but if I did I'd try "Can't Stand the Rain." I think it's ok to steal an umbrella if its pouring, there are no customers in a shop, and they've got loads in the rack.
