AMY LONG / HIGH SCHOOL TEACHER
Tokyo' environment is shocking. There are few parks, few trees and too many cars. The
only good thing is the train. The prospect of global warming is scary. Every time the
weather is weird I think it's because we're messing with the environment. I'm pretty good
with recycling I separate out the bottles and also compost. If you want to help don't
buy a car, sabotage cars that sit running while the driver sleeps and set up huge compost
bins for apartment complexes.

Tokyo's environment stinks. Of course I'm concerned about global warming, I have to live
here. I do my bit for the environment by cultivating compost. My tip for averting
environmental catastrophe - don't shop.

The sky and air quality in Tokyo is really bad. Global warming is a real threat. I'm from
Nagano, and there seems to be less snow every year. I try to recycle, but there aren't
enough recycling plants. Unfortunately, nothing is going to change unless each single
person starts thinking about the consequences.

The perennial haze blanketing Tokyo's
sky is a toxic cocktail of photochemical smog and dioxin pollution caused by burning
waste. The city's environment is also suffering the effects of global warming, with
temperatures rising and weather patterns becoming more unpredictable. In the lead-up to
World Environment Day, TC asked Tokyoites if they are concerned, and if so, what
they are doing about it?

Environmentally, this city is awful. I'm definitely concerned about the prospect of global
warming, particularly for my children. I try to separate garbage, but it's inconvenient
since I have to go to the supermarket to recycle many items.
SATOMI KAWAKAMI / HAIR STYLIST
When I see so much garbage I feel sorry for nature. As far as global warming is concerned,
it definitely seems to be getting hotter every year. I try to do my best for the
environment and always throw my trash in the right area.
