I'm here to shop and sightsee. No single store has caught my eye, but I'm impressed by the
abundance of small boutiques. This is my first visit and in comparison to places like
Shibuya, Jiyugaoka is definitely a stress-free shopping experience.

Why else, for shopping. T: The
Muji store is a standout because it stocks everything you could ever need. B: Sanrio is fun to see since Hello Kitty is no
longer popular or freely available in America. T: I come here a lot and enjoy the diversity of people and stores. B: This is my first time and I like the fact that
it's friendly and not too crowded.
YUMI / DENTAL NURSE
I'm here to shop of course. My favorite store is Haivanz, which sells great Italian and
French imported goods. I come here every day since I work here. I think the area is unique
because of the relaxed atmosphere.

Jiyugaoka might be lesser known among
Tokyo's ardent shopaholics, but those in the know are flocking to this relaxed and
user-friendly shopping alternative. TC headed to "Freedom Hill" to find
out why people are coming to Jiyugaoka, which stores they like to visit, and why the area
is unique from other neighborhoods?

I've come to Jiyugaoka for a bit of window-shopping. I particularly like CenoZoic, which
has lots of cute Japanese-style knickknacks that don't cost the earth. I come here most
weekends and like it because it's large enough to be interesting but small enough to be
enjoyable.

I've come to enjoy culinary delights from the pastry shops and the Maruyo fruit markets.
Shinseido bookshop is my favorite store. This is my first time, and I'm taken by the
diversity of the neighborhood, particularly compared to other areas of Tokyo. It feels
more like Haight Ashbury or parts of New York.
