Jam band party promoters Phatleaf,
for the latest installment in their Organic Groove parties, will bring US
collective Deep Banana Blackout to Tokyo for a Saturday all-nighter at Liquid
Room and an evening gig at Astro Hall the following day.
Based in the New York tri-state area, Deep Banana Blackout were formed in 1995 by a crew
of veteran musicians including highly regarded guitarist James Fuzz SanGiovanni.
Combining a wide range of stylistic influences ranging from funk and jazz to Latin, rock
and psychedelia, they have gained a reputation for powerful improvisational skills and
infectious live shows.
Performing over 150 shows in 2000 put Deep Banana Blackout at the forefront of the jam
band movement as they sold out such venues as Irving Plaza in New York City and the
Fillmore in Denver, where they played a co-bill with Maceo Parker to over 2000 fans.
Debuting with Live in the Thousand Islands in 1997, Deep Banana Blackout signed with
Allman Brothers drummer Butch Trucks' new label Flying Frog for their forthcoming release,
Feel The Peel.
Joining Deep Banana Blackout at Liquid Room will be one of Japan's premiere
improvisational outfits, the up-and-coming Phat, and DJs Izuru Utsumi, Moodman
and PhaTone.
Turning to the house party front,
England's Cream, which has established itself with a monthly residency at Yellow,
will be inviting DJ unit Parks&Wilson to headline its upcoming event on June 8.
DJ partners for many years now, Mick Parks and Mick Wilson have built up a
reputation on the UK progressive house scene through regular stints with Cream, Renaissance,
and other high-profile events. In 2000, they rose to the top of England's cutthroat club
scene with a Saturday night gig alongside Paul Oakenfold at London's Home.
They have also released tracks under the name Tilt and have undertaken remix work
for the likes of Malcolm Mclaren and Danny Tenaglia.
Resident Tokyo Cream DJs Dee-S and Yoshi Watanabe, both veteran deck hounds
in their own right, will join Parks&Wilson for the upcoming Yellow event.

Blackout play Liquid Room on June 9 and Astro Hall on June 10. See listings for details.
