Epic Wave & Protocol

Tokunaga

Two of Tokyos biggest house parties - Sound Collection (Epic Wave) and Protocol - join forces for a combined all-nighter to celebrate the release of resident DJ Tokunaga' Sound Collection mix CD next Saturday. For the occasion, they are inviting as special guests DJs Robert Miles, Captain Tin Rib and Max Alien Trax.

Name notwithstanding, Robert Miles is a DJ/producer who actually hails from Milan, Italy. The force behind the massively successful 1996 track "Children," Miles was responsible for creating a new genre of house coined "dreamhouse." His fittingly titled full-length debut Dreamland was issued the same year. Featuring Miles' trademark ethereal sound, the record was hugely successful and led to Miles receiving the Brit Awards Best International Newcomer that year. In 1997, 23am followed, extending his sound beyond house into breakbeats. Miles remains a highly sought after DJ at parties throughout Europe.

Captain Tinrib, meanwhile, is the force behind Tinrib Recordings, a label established in 1995 that fused hard house with trance, creating a new style known as Hard NRG. He is also resident DJ at London's Fish! at Crash parties and is known for a mad live show that can feature anything from unicycling firebreathers to the odd appearance of The King, Elvis himself. Recent releases include The Captain Tinrib Live Show, recorded at Holland's huge Dance Valley Festival this summer.

The third guest from abroad, Max Alien Trax, is a London-based trance DJ who is well known for residencies at Heaven and other clubs. Having previously played at Liquid Room alongside DJ Yoji Biomehanika, Max has sixteen releases under his belt for his own label Alien Trax, as well as mixes such as Extreme Clubbing Two, out last year on Torture Garden.

Filling out the bill with their own epic trance and hard house styles are DJs Tokunaga and Taka-Jun, well-known to Sound Collection regulars, and Protocol residents James S. and Taka, who will be manning the after hours shift.
