Maki Nibayashi speaks to representatives of
Contents Station Inc., a new company in Japan whose product is information.
Please tell us a bit about your company.
Contents Station Inc. is a new startup company in Japan. We provide essential as well as
other information to the foreign community of Japan in four languages (Brazilian
Portuguese, Korean, Tagalog and Chinese). Information like restaurant and retail, Japanese
visa procedures, how to obtain a driver' license, a chat room and BBS (and this is only a
small sampling of all the information) is available through a network of
telecommunications. We are soon looking to expand both the amount of information available
as well as the number of languages in which the information is available.
When did your company open in Japan?
As I said, we are a new startup company, which began in December of 1999. Since then we
have expanded from 15 to 68 employees.
What positions are you seeking to fill?
Currently we are looking for both part-time as well as full-time positions. The jobs
available range from phone operators, managerial, customer service and support to research
and development.
What requirements would the right person have?
It depends on the position sought. Some positions are entry level, such as phone operators
and customer service and support, which require the potential employee to know at least
basic conversational Japanese. Potential employees for research and managerial positions
need to know translation level Japanese. Fluent reading, written and conversational
English is a must. As a computer generated company, we require computer skills at all
levels and for all positions. These skills range from Windows and Microsoft Office to the
Internet. We are open to those from 22 to 35 years of age. For all positions we prefer
native speakers (English & Spanish).
Can you tell us a bit about the salary range and benefits that a person can
expect?
The first month of employment is a part-time probationary period. Following this period
some will be made full-time. For those continuing part-time employment, the hourly salary
ranges from JY800 to JY1000. For those becoming full-time the monthly salary starts from
JY200,000. All employees receive a bi-annual evaluation and salary adjustment based on
performance. Other benefits may include vacation, paid transportation up to JY1000 daily,
and flexibility.
