Future promise

Walter Fellers, Human Resources Management Division
Maki Nibayashi

With proper training and continued global expansion, career possibilities are "infinite" at Fujitsu. Maki Nibayashi speaks to Walter Fellers of the Human Resources Management Division about unique opportunities at this top Japanese company.

Please tell us a bit about your company.

Fujitsu is a leading provider of Internet-focused information technology solutions for the global marketplace. Its pace-setting technologies, best-in-class computing and telecommunications platforms and worldwide corps of systems and services experts make it uniquely positioned to unleash the infinite possibilities of the Internet to help its customers succeed. An indomitable spirit, pride in providing high-quality products and services, concern for the environment and a deeply felt sense of responsibility to solving our customers' problems are the immutable values of Fujitsu people the world over.

Where do you see the company in the next five years?

Fujitsu will become an even more global company. In many respects, Fujitsu is already an extremely international company, with over 187,000 employees in the Fujitsu group worldwide; however with technology-driven business becoming even more borderless, you will see this trend continue. In fact, if you look at some of our recently acquired customers or some of the partnerships we've been forming, you'll notice this is already occurring.

Please tell us about the working conditions at Fujitsu.

Fujitsu is a company where employees are encouraged and expected to take responsibility for their work. Also, as one of the first Japanese companies to implement a merit-based pay system in Japan, employees are rewarded on the basis of their achievements, not their age or number of years with the company. Finally, it's a place where employees are given the freedom to come up with new ideas and take risks. This is reflected in our mission statement which is "THE POSSIBILITIES ARE INIFINITE."

What positions are you seeking to fill.

With Fujitsu's continued push into the Internet-based services industry, we have a large number of positions available in the systems engineering, consulting and sales groups. We have positions available in other areas as well, for example, research, design, corporate staff, etc. For a complete list of our open positions please check out our recruiting home page at http://recruit.fujitsu.com/  and click international recruiting.

Can you tell us about salary and benefits information:

Salary is based on the candidate's experience and skill set, which should include business level Japanese. Benefits include: bonus (two times per year), salary/performance review (once per year), commuting allowance, health insurance, retirement plan, dependent allowance, overtime allowance, housing allowance, dormitory (depending upon work location), athletic facilities, discount use of recreational facilities and Japanese lessons for those employees who would like to improve their Japanese ability.

Any training programs at Fujitsu?

In line with Fujitsu's view that its employees are the key to the company's future success, we offer a very comprehensive training program. New hires are put through a very thorough training program soon after they join us, so that they are able to work effectively. New hires then receive OJT (on the job training) in their respective business units. The OJT training can last from several days to several months depending upon the new hire's skill set and the business unit's needs. In addition, employees are encouraged to continue training and learning during their entire career at Fujitsu. From introductory Excel classes to highly technical certification classes, Fujitsu offers both classroom and web-based training so that its employees remain the best trained in the industry.
