Language learning online

Michael Alan, Managing Director of Cyber College
Maki Nibayashi

Cyber College is looking for PR and marketing personnel to spread the word about their cutting-edge English instruction. Maki Nibayashi speaks to Managing Director Michael Alan about these and other available positions.

Please tell us about your organization.
Essentially we are a learning institution using many and varied approaches to instructing our students in their chosen area of study. We have gathered the most talented, creative people we could find to fulfill what we perceived to be a void in the adult education field in Japan, particularly where it pertains to English language studies. Cyber College is a high-tech institution combining the latest technology with old-fashioned honesty and friendliness in providing customers what they had been yearning for but unable to find.

What makes your school different from the rest?
We have created our own interactive learning software in conjunction with the University of Hawaii. This software comes in two specific packages: Computer Studies (in Japanese) and English as a Second Language (in a bilingual format). The software is designed for students of various levels. Our software begins at a level slightly higher than most of our students' starting ability, and herein lies the genius of our approach. Students choose a software package. They are then eligible to attend our Cyber College Salon in Shinjuku for a period of two years. Regardless of which software package is chosen, a student is welcome to attend both computer classes and English classes at the salon. Attending our Lounge Conversation Program in conjunction with the classroom curriculum, a student is able to bridge the gap between their starting ability and making use of the interactive software package at home.

Our professional and international staff is proud of the results we have received. Many schools offer dreams of someday speaking English. Cyber College has seen tremendous results. Not only do our instructors cover grammar, but they teach the students how foreigners from various countries speak in a real situation. At many other English language facilities, students come away speaking like a textbook in a katakana accent that no one is able to understand. Close attention is paid to phonetics and pronunciation. We have taken the study experience to a new level and for a fraction of the cost of many other famous organizations in Tokyo.

What positions are you seeking to fill?
Positions are periodically available in PR/Marketing and English language instruction. We are looking for the best people available. In these very uncertain economic times when many organizations are cutting back, Cyber College is expanding to cater to our growing number of students. Salaries are commensurate with other companies in the field, but it really depends on what the prospective employee brings to the table. An employee in any field of our operations who has drive, energy and imagination will reap the rewards we have to offer.

A resume is only a starting point. Our vigorous interview/training program is the only real way to determine whether a prospective employee is suitable to be part of this very exciting people business.
