Nicola Horbach, Recruitment Coordinator
Maki Nibayashi

Living abroad comes with its challenges. When it' time for expatriates to secure their financial future, Stirling Macguire has some sound advice. Maki Nibayashi speaks to Recruitment Coordinator Nicola Horbach about three openings at this unique personal finance company.

Tell us a bit about your company.
Stirling Macguire Asset Management Limited looks after personal financial planning and investment for clients in Tokyo and around the region. We specialize in five main areas: lump sum portfolio investment, offshore banking, offshore company formation, retirement planning and regular savings for capital accumulation. Our ideas not only create wealth for our clients by making their money work hard, but also since our solutions are offshore, they are flexible, secure and tax effective. Stirling Macguire provides a highly personalized independent service that reflects a thorough understanding of our client's particular resources, plans and aspirations. Stirling Macguire has been servicing the needs of Tokyo's expatriate community since 1996.

What makes your company different from the rest?
Our goal is to help the client succeed 100 percent in a way they are comfortable with. To achieve this, we seek first to thoroughly understand matters from our client's point of view before we offer any advice. Although our activities are measured in millions of dollars, we select our people one by one. In a service industry, we know that without the best people we cannot be the best firm. We exclusively hire people who are residents and established in Tokyo, as this provides the local expertise and stability over time that our clients expect. We have dedicated client service coordinators in Tokyo to look after clients' ongoing needs. As well as this, we are the first such company in Tokyo to institute NAVglobal, an online system allowing our clients access to information on their investments 24 hours a day via our website (starting Aug 1). Integrity and honesty are at the heart or our business. We expect our people to maintain high ethical standards in everything they do, both in their work for the firm and in their personal lives.

We specialize in innovative investment solutions that provide an absolute return, rather than giving a return that rises and falls in line with the market.

What is it like working at Stirling Macguire?
Our work environment is varied and dynamic. It's serious, but we do many different things throughout the day, and it's never boring. People have a lot of personal responsibility and are expected to manage themselves. On the other hand, we're also big believers in training, both to offer the best possible service to the client and to maximize the opportunities for the consultants in the firm. We go on various company-paid training courses on a semi-regular basis; we are currently organizing a fire walk in June.

What positions are you seeking to fill?
We are hiring for three positions:
Financial Consultant: We are looking for people who are ambitious, successful and self-motivated. Stirling Macguire is committed to helping our Financial Consultants launch and build careers. If you are a successful sales professional, entrepreneur, have a financial background or are just interested in a great opportunity, we want to talk to you. We provide superior income opportunities, ongoing sales training and excellent career prospects.

Administrator/PA: The successful candidate will need to be competent in Microsoft Office applications, well-organized and enjoy working in a dynamic varied environment. Stirling Macguire is looking for someone to join our expanding client service department full time as well as working on special projects with our manager.

Research/Telesales: This is a perfect opportunity for anyone who is looking to start a career within the Financial Consulting sector. Research and Telesales are the foundation of any client development and service organization. As you work we will train you in financial planning and investment advice, putting you on the path of advancement to become a trainee consultant.
