Mako Suzumechi, Sales Manager, James Webb, Director/General Manager, and Masami Yamamoto, Administrative Manager
Maki Nibayashi

If sales and consultancy is your specialty - and an open working environment your preference - Learning Tree International is for you. Maki Nibayashi spoke to Sales Manager Mako Suzumechi about opportunities at this top US company.

Tell us a bit about your company...
Learning Tree International was founded in 1974 and has been successfully operating in Japan for more than ten years. A US-based multinational, Learning Tree has offices and education centers around the world in major cities such as New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, London, Paris, Toronto, Ottawa, Stockholm, Hong Kong and Tokyo. We specialize in developing and delivering high-end IT training to technical professionals around the globe. Each year we conduct thousands of seminars in the latest information technology areas, and we trained more than 137,000 engineers and IT professionals last year alone.

With a course curriculum of more than 160 hands-on seminars and nearly 1000 expert instructors, we are the training vendor of choice for many of the world' most famous companies and organizations. They know that Learning Tree International can support their training needs no matter where on the planet they require training (we have not had any requests to train in Antarctica yet...). Unlike some other training companies, Learning Tree is a specialist... training is all we do, so we have to be better than the competition, and our clients tell us we are. Our repeat ratio is very high because our clients are satisfied and have learned to rely on us for consistent quality. We conduct some training in the English language in Japan, but most of our clients here are Japanese and the student notes and lectures are in Japanese. In 1995 our company listed on the NASDAQ. Forbes has cited us in its "200 Best Small Companies" for the last two years.

What kind of people are you looking for?
Someone with a corporate sales/customer service background (preferably three years or more) who is experienced in providing consultative sales to clients would do very well at our company.

We have an immediate opening in corporate account development. The position involves meeting with qualified companies to interview them and propose training-based solutions to help them achieve their project-specific and strategic objectives. The candidate should be a native Japanese with at least reading-level English, or a fluent Japanese speaker with native or good English skills. Although most clients are Japanese there is some need to communicate (mostly via email) with staff in the US, hence the need for some level of English ability. Email, Word and Excel experience is also essential. Prior experience in the IT industry is helpful but not required.

What type of compensation and benefit packages do you offer?
We will offer a very attractive package to the right candidate, which will include an annual base salary that takes into account the individual's experience and performance, and commission/incentive on revenue, paid vacation, floating holidays, insurance (pension, health, unemployment, worker's compensation, etc.) medical check-up, sick leave and stock options. Vacation time increases with each year of employment, and we conduct salary increase reviews annually. A good performer will earn very good money with us. We are a small office and a fun team to work for. The office environment and company culture is cheerful and refreshingly open and free. Join us and create the atmosphere you want!
