LIFE IN JAPAN
Brian Brennan

Brian BrennanOccupation:
Student
Time in Japan:
Three years

Where are you from?
I come from a place called Roosevelt Island, New York City. It' a little place in the middle of the East River between Manhattan and Queens. I want people to know that such a place exists in New York City.

Where do you go to school?
ASIJ - the American School in Japan - in Chofu-shi, which is western Tokyo. I'm in the first grade there.

What's your favorite subject?
Math, because it's easy for me. People call me the math expert.

Do you have a favorite teacher?
I like Mrs. Davidson, my math teacher, and all the library teachers.

What's your favorite book?
I'm a big fan of "Calvin and Hobbes" and "Garfield" books.

Who is your favorite Japanese cartoon character?
Definitely Pika-chu from the Pocket Monsters!

What's your favorite TV show?
CatDog, a US television show. It's really hard to explain what it's about but I'll try. It's about this animal with one body and two heads - one is a cat and the other is a dog, and the cat head is always arguing with the dog head. It's really funny. Oh, and I also like The Simpsons and Rugrats.

What's your favorite place in Tokyo?
I love Shibuya because there are so many movie theatres and I really love movies. It's also where I get my copy of TC - my favorite magazine in the world!

What are your all-time favorite movies?
The Rug Rats movie, A Bug's Life and Antz.

What's your favorite section in Tokyo Classified?
The movie pages! I love movies. Ever since my Dad gave me my first copy of Tokyo Classified back in early 1998, I've really liked the movie reviews and listings in TC.

What do you do in your free time?
I go to the movies and play tennis, soccer and basketball. I also just graduated to Wolf Cub in the Cub Scout world.

If you had Y10,000, what would you buy?
Lots of A Bug's Life and Star Wars, Episode I toys.

What do you like about Japan most?
I like the fact that it's so clean and safe when compared to New York. And the people here are really friendly. They're especially friendly towards kids.

If you could change one thing about Japan, what would it be?
Grown-up men peeing and spitting on the streets. It's really gross! I'd also get American movies here a lot earlier.

What's your recipe for a happy life in Japan?
Smile!
